What I teach

Four instruments.
One approach: yours.

Every lesson is built around what you want to play, from your first chords to writing and recording your own songs.

Guitar

Acoustic or electric. Chords, riffs, technique, and learning the songs you love.

Drums

Groove, timing, and fills from someone who plays drums in a working band.

Bass

Locking in with the drums, reading charts, and building lines that serve the song.

Piano

Keys for songwriters: chords, voicings, and playing along with your voice.

About me

Hey, I'm J.R.

I'm a musician and songwriter based in Montreal, and I've been playing for more than 15 years. I write and release my own music, and I play drums in the band Last Waltzon.

Lessons with me aren't one-size-fits-all. We'll work on whatever gets you excited to pick up your instrument, whether that's learning a favourite song, understanding the theory behind it, writing something of your own, or recording yourself at home.

*Drums are wonderfully loud, so lessons at my apartment are on an electronic kit, which is still great and perfectly suited for learning. If you'd rather learn on a real kit, we can talk about booking a rehearsal space at an extra cost. All prices in CAD.
